My partner Anthony and I decided that our chrome plated press type juicer just wasn't effective enough for the large oranges we were buying from Costco Leeds. Much of the juice just wasn't being pressed out effectively. So, we decided to go on line to our favourite internet store, Amazon and see what juicers they had in stock.

We checked out all the citrus juicers as this was the type we wanted, ie to get juice out of oranges and lemons especially. We already have a very expensive Hurom masticating juicer, bought from Amazon a year ago, which is great for juicing apples, celery etc., but we wanted something simpler to use that would not take up too much space on our worktop, just for juicing oranges.

When choosing our juicer one thing we looked for was the most powerful motor for our money. The Duronic JE601 was £14.99 when we purchased it and we were happy to pay this as it had the most powerful motor (85 watts) in its price bracket. This means when using the juicer and pressing down on the fruit the motor will keep turning and last longer than a juicer with a lower wattage motor.

Also, the Duronic juicer has a smart silver finish, with stainless steel filter. The casing is not stainless steel but this results in a lighter to handle machine. There is a stainless steel version of this juicer with same 85 watt motor and different branding but is more expensive. There is a cord tidy underneath the juicer so you can let out the right amount of power cord for your use.

Finally, I would like to add that we can now extract 2 glasses full of orange juice from 3 large Costco oranges, whereas before we were using 4 oranges. A great product that I have no hesitation in recommending to other people visiting Amazon!

I brought this juicer early 2007 and I have loved it from day 1, you get so much juice and the pulp is very dry apart from when you're using citrus fruits! Its easy to clean compared to some other juicers but its still best to rince it straight away so it keeps looking new! I would definately recommend this juicer to anyone and its worth the extra money, the black one looks really good and the plastic is good quality because i still have no scratches after almost 2 years but I wash mine by hand so I dont know how well they last in the dishwasher!
Only one little thing they probably could of added to improve this item is a jug to collect the juice, i use a measuring jug with a small saucer sitting on to top because it does splash when it comes out!

I only paid £12.90 for this product so wasnt expecting it to be up to much but just so long as it got me through a 10 day Master Cleanse where i had to juice 8 or 9 lemons a day i would be happy. It got me through the cleanse and is now whizzing through Oranges that its juicing for my breakfast like theres no tomorrow. Reading that back it sounds as if its doing all the work on its own but it is kinda like that .... you cut the fruit in half then gently press half of it down on top of the juicer and it just works. No strength or pressure needed it just does it.

Pressing down for 5 or 10 seconds then releasing the pressing down again for 5 or 10 seconds releases something in the motor and the juicer turns the other way, clockwise to anti clockwise, its fabulous!! The direction change is the reason you dont have to do any work because the juicer gets all the bits it missed the first time round just by changing direction. Every once in a while it doesnt change direction but im guessing that this is something to do with cogs not meeting at quite the right point - my quad does this sometimes and i have to rock it gently backwards and forwards a couple of times to click it into reverse - with the juicer just lifting to stop and pressing down again usually does the trick. I wouldnt even say this is a fault with the product because it was £12.90 for goodness sake!!

I also like the gadget on the tray that catches the pips and 'bits' that allows you to open the filter up to allow bits in the juice or close the gaps to stop the bits from falling in the juice. Gaps are too small to allow pips but as i really like 'bits' in my juice it is an added bonus for me. I did try it closed with Oranges for my son, who is now studying in Singapore for 9 months and who is sorely missed, and the only problem was that after one orange you had to get rid of some of the bits as it was clogging up the top - not really a problem and just goes to show its working as it should.

Cleaning is just a matter of running it under the tap its as easy as that!

I love my little black juicer - it rocks!!

Well I wanted a juicer and I went and got one, and not only that but I'm writing it up like I'm Ernest Hemingway or something. Well OK, I'm not, but I think at least it deserves a little literary attention, after the 139 reviews heaped on the Philips HR2737/70, the 22 of the KitchenCraft Lemon Reamer, and the 17 of the Braun Citromatic MP29... This one is I think neater than the Philips or the Braun (the most similar designs). It juices fast without much pressure. It's easy to take apart, dispose of the pulp, and clean. It pours nicely. It doesn't splash. There's even an outside possibility that, with the jar removed, it could be used as a love toy. I haven't tried this but just mention it for those who seek polyvalence in their kitchen equipment.

This is a great juicer and you really do get lots of juice from it.
It is a sturdy machine, heavy and well built.
A couple of snags, cleaning isn't easy and needs to be worked at - the longest part of juicing!
Warning - NEVER let the fruit dry before cleaning or you will be there all day!!!
The plastic spatula does get worn (we juice every day) and replacements are £4 each - a rip-off!
Should give years of service.

This item serves its purpose, HOWEVER, the nozzle (where the juice is meant to pour out from) is not very effective. The product is not designed well enough for an ample amount of the juice to pour out, therefore one has to take off the two top fixtures in order to pour out the majority of the juice.

Other than that, my experience with delivery from the seller was so-so. It was received within the amount of time stated, but upon delivery, I noted that there was an important part missing from the juicer. It seemed that there was a stopper missing (without it, juice would be flowing everywhere apart from in the glass). I emailed the seller about this and they said that they were willing to refund £8 of the £47 paid for the inconvenience. I haven't yet checked my bank balance so I don't even know if I received the £8 refund. But in the meantime, I am having to seal the hole with sellotape in order to contain the juice.
